Ibex with Locked Horns, 1925

Cut paper silhouette || 9 ¼ x 11 ¾ inches

William Hunt Diederich - Ibex with Locked Horns

Known for his stylized Art Deco figures and animals in iron, Wilhelm Hunt Diederich was born in Szent-Grot, Austria-Hungary in 1884. He immigrated with his family to America in 1894 and eight years later traveled West, spending time in Wyoming, New Mexico, and Arizona. He fused the themes of ancient European and American art with the Romanticized motifs of the West.

Ibex with Locked Horns, 1925, is a cut paper silhouette possibly executed as a study for a later project. The Ibex are placed in the center of the composition with their horns locked, surrounded by decorative motifs and borders.
